1888 Opening of the largest department store in Wilhelmshaven. Acquired by the retailers „Bartsch & von der Brelie“.
1933 Opening of a fabric store by the fabric dealers Heinrich Peine and Josef Klauke.
1943 Acquisition of Bartsch department store by Peine & Klauke.
1948 Founding of BAWI (BA = Bartsch, WI = Wilhelmshaven) as clothing company with its own production facility.
1967 CENTO – The world’s first washable suit is launched. The suit’s face fabric is especially developed in-house.
CENTO becomes Germany’s best known suit.
1971 The “Uwe Seeler” (captain of the national soccer team) sports range is launched at BAWI.
A menswear collection for sports enthusiasts who desire a high degree of wearing comfort when travelling, at work or for leisure.
1972 BAWI is appointed by the IOC as the official outfitter of the German Olympic team in Sapporo and Munich,
and delivers the official travel and evening suit.
1973 Company’s 25th anniversary.
Heinrich Peine receives the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany – only a few months later,
he dies at the age of 65 years old.
1978 New organisation of the marketing and production companies: MASTERHAND is established.
1985 New promotional strategy: „MARIO BARUTTI by BAWI“.
1992 Company headquarters of all marketing companies is relocated to present building in Rheinstraße, Wilhelmshaven.
1994 MARIO BARUTTI adopts innovative themes into their own outfit collections.
1996 1st mix & match suit from MARIO BARUTTI.
1998 Company’s 50th anniversary.
1999 BARUTTI creates the elegant „Platinum“” collection – top-quality products made in Germany.
In addition, the “Revolution”, the first wrinkle free mix and match suit, goes on offer.
2001 First POS concept from BAWI in Cologne.
Extension of MARIO BARUTTI product range: shirts, knitwear, belts and ties.
2004 MASTERHAND presents the “Celebration”, the first mix and match suit for wedding wear.
2006 Management buyout: Company succession issue resolved by successful takeover.
2010 A new era begins with a new investor: PEINE GmbH is founded.
2014 the largest shareholder Shandong Ruyi Group invest in beginning of 2014.
2015 Jianhua Yu and Oliver Wagner new Managing Directors of the company PEINE GmbH.
2017 For more than 5 years break, the new GF-participants are at the Preuium Exhibition during Fashion Week of Berlin.
2018 Integration of the Masterhand brand into the main line Barutti. Update of, relaunch of
